Will 2mb be OK?

At the mo I am useing 1mb, No problems to speak of

I am thinking of going to 2mb BUT am worried a little about my line.

Downstream --- Upstream
SNR Margin ----- 23.1 --- 27.0 dB
Line Attenuation ----- 48.4 --- 24.5 dB
Errored Seconds -----965 --- 210
Loss of Signal ---- 0 --- 0
Loss of Frame ---- 0 ---0
CRC Errors ----- 1016 --- 347
Data Rate -----1152 --- 288 kbps
Latency -----FAST--- FAST

Connection 10 days

There are errors, but I think they are due to the cheep router I am using.

Can any of you who have changed to 2mb please relay any problems or successes you might have had

Cheers

Will 2mb be OK?

Your downstream line attenuation is too high (it needs to be 43dB or lower) so you can't have 2Mb on that line.

Hi,

Taking a look at the above statistics, i have to point out that all software reads differently and doesn't mean you can not have 2MB, you down stream noise margin is better than mine.

My ADSL Statistics...

Up
Noise Margin +30.0dB
Attenuation +29.5dB

Down
Noise Margin +17.1dB
Attenuation +48.0dB

Speed test done yesterday.

2Mbit (E1) - IP Stream office 2000

Downstream 1.83 Mbps (234.78 KB/sec)

Upstream 240 Kbps (30.0 KB/sec)

Will 2mb be OK?

The above comes from the router status page.

Some, but not all, routers have a status page which shows your line condition. If you don't use a router or your router does not show this info then there is nothing you can run on your PC to get the info. It is a feature of some routers.

What ADSL equipment do you use?

At the moment im using a BINATONE ADSL500 modem. I havent got a router at present although im seriously considering getting one. I have been looking around and i thought that this Wireless Router would make a excellent choice but its a little expensive. Have you had any experience with routers and can suggest a good model?. I posted a topic a while ago on the subject of routeers and i got some good responses with several suggestions. However things change over the months. Wink

Thanks

Will 2mb be OK?

Netgear DG834G and Linksys WAG54G are the two I would recommend in that order. They are both under £80 now.

Mixed opinions :?

When upgrading to 2mb does anyone come out to test the line first?

Or do I have to pay and take the chance?

OR can plus net do a line test from there office?

BT will almost certainly test the line for 2Mb. When you request your regrade pn will debit the regrade fee before submitting the request to BTW. If it turns out your line aint upto it, pn refund the regrade fee.
