Why does it take 7-10 days to activate line?

I wondered why it takes 7 - 10 days to activate the line once the order has been submitted to BT?

I know the ADSL tracker screen does say that you might see the line come active before they [Plus.Net] advise that you can use it.

However my order was submitted at 21:00 on Tuesday night [02/07] and when I activated my equipment at 16:00 on Wednesday the line was up and working fine and has been fine ever since (3 CRC's in 40 hours is a good quality line).

If the line became active that quickly why the additional 9 days, what other tests take place on the line?

This is not criticism, I am just curious!

Well the test BT perform on the line are basically checking the noise on the line and test the data packet loss, also whether your line is suitable for a high speed connection

So Chris, are you saying that your adsl is up and running before plus.net sent you your confirmation email? I mean, up and running as in, you're surfing and downloading with it?

Or just that it connects but you have no active plus.net account?

BT quote this length of time and by experience it is rougthly correct.

BT have to organise it with their engineers to go to your exchange.
BT engineer wires up your phone line to the ADSL service.
BT speeds a couple of days testing.
If everything goes well your online. If nto BT may have to carry out works at the exchange to get you online.

5-7 working days.

If I may ask - what delay is there between BT finishing their checks and Plusnet informing me of my account being active?
