What's your 2mbit connection's actual speed

I've just got my 2mbit connection, I run the plusnet speed test and it says 1.4mbit?

What is everyone else getting?

What's your 2mbit connection's actual speed

1.9, but then it is raining Wink

I've asked before, but not found an answer as to what it is reasonable to expect under what circumstances. Mine's been 1.5 on the odd occasion, but normally 1.8 - 1.9

If somebody who knows can comment on what is reasonable and why, it would be helpful to many, I think.

What's your 2mbit connection's actual speed

1.85 Mbps on the bandwidth speed test. For a more accurate figure go to ADSL guide here http://adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp you should be looking at 220KB/s as a minimum figure. I'm lucky that my connection is rock steady and doesn't waver by more than a couple of KB/s from 230 (pretty much max).

What's your 2mbit connection's actual speed

Varies, anything from 200kbps to 1.9Mbps. I would say the average is around 1.3Mbps

To be honest, given that ADSL works on contention. It is acceptable. However, I do usually get much better speeds.

Today it doesn't seem to be up to much though.

Why does every one and dog Trust that speed test like the bible. I ran a few tests with it and its in no way accurate. It shows mine as working at 140kB but I run a ftp download from a fast host and i get 230kB. So Don't trust speed tests its 30 seconds when all it takes is a sneeze on the line to slow it up or speed it up beyond the true speed, use a know good FTP sever and dowload a large file to get your true speed, not a 1.3mb file that is all you get from the speed test.
