Voyager 105 modem

My daughter recently started using dsl with the BT Voyager 105 modem... she has has horrendous problems with random disconnections and blue screens. Trawling through the web has thrown up a whole raft of similar experiences with this modem. The blue screens (stop: 0x0000008E error) disappear if the modem drivers are uninstalled (and yes, the latest drivers are now installed).

From my own research the disconnections seem to be associated with incompatibility with the chipset (too much current being drawn) and also weak signal on the phone line, although she's well within the prescribed distance from the BT exchange. AS for the blue screens.... Huh?

If there's anyone out there who knows what's causing it could you please enlighten me?
