Why does it drop from 6MB to 41k?

Are you on LLU? There is an intermittent speed problem being investigated.

Hi

Yes I am. It has been going on for a wile now, but does not seem to be reported on the 'service status' area. Seems to be that the platform cant cope at peek time?

Nope, there is plenty of spare capacity on the LLU pipes.

See this thread for details of the problem and what PN need to help investigate it. In particular you need to raise a ticket so you are known and do the tests detailed by Bob Pullen on page 5 of that thread.

Thanks for that. I have raised a ticket a few days ago. It does seem that everyone is experiencing problems at peek time, and although I am keen to help I think that questions like 'What router are you using' and 'Have you tried other equipment' add little value as the problem affects multiple users. It is clearly a wholesale problem between yourselfs and the supplier, and should not be too difficult to identify. I suppose that the 'planned' maintenance is a coincidence too?

1) I don't work for PlusNet as my sig states.

2) The planned LLU maintenance is normal Tiscali maintenance of their network and happens frequently if you read back through the service status reports. See the service status feeds forum or here.

The reason the router is request is so they can eliminate the possibility of a problem with just one type or make of router (which has happend in the past with Draytek routers). Trying alternate routers and the problem still ocurring is still valuable information i.e. so they can eliminate that possibility.

The problem has been on-going for a while but so far neither PlusNet or Tiscali have found any cause. It is not affecting all LLU users just some from time to time making it difficult to trace. I went several days without seeing the problem and others have reported it happening on some days and not others.

Hi,

Fully appreciate the difficulties that you are experiencing with LLU speeds and please accept my apologies for any inconveniences that you have experienced.

We have (as of the tail end of last week) raised these issues within a senior level at Tiscali and they are currently investigating any potential issues. We have posted a service status message regarding the slow speeds and will update this once we have heard back from Tiscali.
