USB Modem/Connection Problems?

For anyone having trouble connecting with ADSL (as I did) you might find the following
links of some real help.

I have the Fujitsu FDX310 which is intended to be powered from the USB socket. Fujitsu
acknowledge that there are reported problems with some USB based systems which
include AMD Athlon motherboards with VIA or Intel USB interfaces.

I think it's worth mentioning that before purchasing a Powered USB hub or installing an
internal PCI-powered USB card there are other options to try such as checking BIOS
settings and cleaning up the Device manager in safe mode (this proved to be the cause
of my particular connection problem)

more info on this here.... http://212.23.2.100/ADSL/USB/default.asp?URL=t_clean

This problem seems to be effecting quite a number of people signing up for ADSL and
support from Plusnet does seem rather limited and simplistic...... although I am a very
satisfied Plusnet customer, I really do think you can offer more detailed information in
this area especially in view of the expanding number of new accounts and upgrades.

You're right, it wouldn't hurt for a tweaks and tips page, but not just for USB modems - the choice of kit for home ADSL installations is getting quite extensive, whether USB, router & network card or PCI. The latter option is definitely getting more popular, but may not always be quite as easy to set up as USB. The setup on mine needed the DNS server addresses, not too hard to find admittedly, but perhaps it's worth adding them to the basic configuration info?

I know the support pages refer to the forum as well, but new users might still appreciate a bit more info upfront, even after Reading The Flipping Manual! Nice little job for someone?

RE: USB Modem/Connection Problems?

I am awaiting connection to ADSL having previously been with the terminally pants BTopenworld. I have an Intel USB Modem on my G4 mac. Should I expect any problems?? Or were you specific about the set-up you described...i.e. itsonly a problem if you have a system with both>??

RE: USB Modem/Connection Problems?

I think the question of adding more support to our pages regarding ADSL can be a difficult one. We could keep adding more and more support pages till where blue in the face. Too much and it defeats the purpose as the support becomes too much for the adverage user to handle.

ADSL is still very much in its infancy, we have seen some devices easy to setup and some more difficult. I believe that manufacturers will realise this and make such ADSL devices more simpler on the user, than the ones that are currently on the market.

We are however looking at our ADSL support pages and will be providing more detailed instructions on how to get ADSL working very soon.
