Too much noise on my line ...

I've just been told that ADSL cannot be activated on my line because it failed the last test - there's too much noise on the line. I know I am less than 2km from the exchange so I think the problem is with the last 50M, because I live in a private close. There has been no maintenance on the line for at least 15 years.

BT residential customer services say that the line is only guaranteed for voice transmissions so there is nothing I can do.

Can anyone suggest how I may persuade BT to sort this out ?

I have the same problem as you, although I am outside of the 3.5Km range but well within the 5.5Km range.

I have even tried raising fault, to try and get it sorted, but to no advale.

According to BT Customer services, they are working on the proble, but are unable to give specific details.

During my month long argument with them, they did come up with the suggestion of moving exchanged at a cost of £1000, but with no gaurentee of the line quality.

One of the possiable causes is that some of the lines underground are aluminium not copper wire, but trying to get BT to own upto this is proving difficult
