Speedtouch 330 vs 510

I've been connected with a speedtouch 330 perfectly fine since i signed up with plusnet. I recently bought a ST510 off ebay as i didn't want to rely on a usb modem any more, but it will not sync up at all, even when plugged into a filter in the master socket with everything else unplugged.

Woosh tests while the 330 is in sync have given line attenuation of 26db and snr of 30db which look fine.

Are the 510s temperamental or have i bought a duff one?

As you have had no usefull replies, I offer the following.
It is possible that you have bought a duff one, but have you set it up properly. This type of connection is a bit more complicated than the 330. Are you able to enter the web interface? If so check the following
Encapsulation=PPPoA VC-MUX
VPI =0 (zero)
VCI =38
Bridge =Disabled
IGMP =Disabled
Remember that your ADSL username will be different from your normal one and will probably be something like xxx@plusdsl.net, your password should be the same. The security protocol should be CHAP.
There is a firmware upgrade available which you can find, along with other good advice, here-
