Speed Again

Hi,

I have recently moved over to Broadband and thought that the 2MB Broadband Plus was a good move. However, I am disappointed with the speeds that I am getting (or maybe I was expecting too much). I have checked with Plus Net and they have said that I am on 2MB. However, when I do speed tests I am expecting speeds of at least 1500kbs. Here are my speeds:

Date Speed Achieved (kbps)
11-07-2005 23:46:31 313.6
11-07-2005 20:29:09 335.9
11-07-2005 02:02:49 1042.3
11-07-2005 01:25:13 1165
11-07-2005 01:24:45 801.7
11-07-2005 01:24:19 1181.1
11-07-2005 01:23:53 1059.1
11-07-2005 01:22:41 876.9
11-07-2005 01:22:01 922.7
11-07-2005 01:21:35 1029.7
11-07-2005 01:21:11 961.1
11-07-2005 01:20:43 1210.3
11-07-2005 01:20:23 1564.3
11-07-2005 01:20:01 1418.7
11-07-2005 01:19:38 1048.4
11-07-2005 01:01:08 446.4
11-07-2005 00:12:10 335.7
10-07-2005 23:46:32 359.7
10-07-2005 23:44:02 469.8

I have run the BT test as well and was getting about 370 k for 11-07-2005 at around 20:30 (where Plus net was 335.9).

The router isn't plugged intot he master socket as that is in the garage (Don't ask me why as I have no idea). Any ideas anyone?

Also, for people on the same package as me - What speeds do you get?

Many thanks in advance

Speed Again

Hi,

clearly an issue there. Your figures in the main, are well below normal for a 2mb connection.

If you have eliminated all possible causes within your premises, including connecting to the master socket, raise a ticket to Plus Net for escalation to BT. Be advised though, should the problem be with you internal wiring or equipment BT will charge.

The Troubleshooting tutorial from the usertools site here is worth a read.

Speed Again

Hi dedwyddfa
Welcome to the club!
Speed, or more precisely the lack of it appears to a big problem at the moment for a lot of people - it's my own belief that ever since plusnet gave lots of people free upgrades earlier this year BT have been struggling to cope with the extra demand - but try and get them to admit that!
I've posted three times in the last week or so - in this forum (user name royall) and in the customer feedback forum under "not so fast" and "is there a lawer out there?" plus I have raised a ticket with the support section.
It seems that BT will not even admit that there could be a problem unless you can prove (using their own speedtest) that you are getting speeds less than 400kbps - oh, and by the way you'll have to do the tests between 00.00am and 07.00am (i.e. in the dead of night).
I managed to prove it only to be told that BT did find a small problem but have now solved it - yes, you've guessed it when I tested it out no difference at all - so I got back to plusnet all they said was "prove it again and we'll get BT to look at it again".
If you want to pursue this one you're going to have to have the patience of a saint as I'm fairly sure that plusnet are dragging their heels in the hope that people like you and me will just get fed up and resign ourselves to what we've got.
Best of luck with it!
