So much for the 'upgrade'

Logged on this morning thinking that everything would be back to normal. It did feel a lot faster but the upload was still very slow.
Now at 17:45, the speed test says:

Downstream 103 Kbps (12.9 KB/sec) 118 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 21 Kbps (2.6 KB/sec) 24 Kbps (inc. overheads)

What the hell is going on??

Im at the end of my tether now. If it isnt fixed REALLY soon, im moving to freeserve as my friend is with them and he gets constant 58 download and 30 upload. And thats not an exaggeration. I'd ask any users who feel the same to also change ISP.

I knew i was tempting fate this morning. Just been on ISP review writing about how good Plusnet is and how good their customer support is.

I want answers.

RE: So much for the 'upgrade'

Just got home from work.

After seeing on the status page that everything was fine I decided to run a speed test and was horrified to see these results:

Downstream 126 Kbps (15.8 KB/sec) 144 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 51 Kbps (6.4 KB/sec) 58 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Whats going on?

PLUSNET WHATS GOING ONHuhHuhHuh
I think 10 seconds to load Plusnet homepage is a bit of a joke!

RE: So much for the 'upgrade'

I noticed earlier this week that location seems to be an issue.

If you are going through Ilford, then the speeds and response times are consistently slower than other connections.

Could you post the results of a traceroute ?? (tracert portal.plus.net from windows dos box/traceroute portal.plus.net from linux)

This will help plusnet and others diagnose the faults.

Here's the results I just got. The 2 kids are surfing the Harry Potter website on 2 other PCs through the router at the same time too! Oh, and I've not tuned TCP/IP on this box either.

The tuned machines have been giving slightly higer speeds all week & today. I hope this makes some sense to someone, it means bugger all to me! What I would say though, is if you're still getting slow speeds & you've tuned your TCP/IP, then raise a support ticket cos you must have a fault somewhere that's probably nothing to do with the upgrade.
I have to say, also, that the discussion forums on here have never been performant - must be a server problem rather than networking causing that...

RE: So much for the 'upgrade'

Plusnet did say that they were going to migrate all users on the plusdsl domain to the new system.

What appears to be happening is that packets are being lost between hg1.ilford/hg2.ilford and the portal.

Traceroutes from my connection folllow:

01 106.core.plus.net (212.159.1.106) 10ms 10ms 10ms 10/10/10ms
02 jalpiaza.core.telehouse.plus.net (212.159.1.226) 20ms 10ms 10ms 10/20/13ms

05 plusnet1-hg1.ilford.broadband.bt.net (217.41.128.200) 191ms 220ms 220ms 191/220/210ms

Note the packet loss (*) to hg2.ilford.

Hope this helps the 'nerds' at plusnet:rolleyes

RE: So much for the 'upgrade' - another angle on the speed i

My router gives some interesting stats on the line quality - another factor which determines ADSL speed.

Rate
Downstream 576 kbps
Upstream 288 kbps

SNR
SNR 42 dB

ATEN
ATEN Downstream 19 dB
ATEN Upstream 12 dB

Loop Distance
Loop Distance 4 K ft.

What do you guys with slow connections get? How far from the exchange are you, how noisy is your line?

RE: So much for the 'upgrade' - another angle on the speed i

Heres my last 2 tests with adsl guide deffinately looks like my up;oad is sorted but just look at those downloads.

Downstream 44 Kbps (5.5 KB/sec) 50 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 243 Kbps (30.4 KB/sec) 279 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Downstream 14 Kbps (1.8 KB/sec) 16 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 243 Kbps (30.4 KB/sec) 279 Kbps (inc. overheads)

I have all ready said this, my downloads were fine until we had that DNS problem a few weeks ago, so I can't see it having anything to do with my line. If i had always had problems with my downloads then i would say it could be that, but my downloads used to be in the 400's now im lucky to get them above 300, not just that if it was my line that is at fault then why am i getting uploads at full speed. I am starting to get realy peeved off with all this now but can you blame me with download speeds like the above. I'm realy thinking that i am better off going back to a 56k modem at least with that i got a constant 44 Kbps download.Sad
