Setting up a hostname on my new domain

I want to set up a reverse dns pointing to my hostname...

How do I actually set up the hostname so that plusnet can point to it ??

Also, in what format should the hostname be ??

The domain is supplied and managed by plusnet.

Thanks in advance for any help Cool

Setting up a hostname on my new domain

A format of computername.domainname.co.uk is usually best.

Raise this through link:contact us and see if PlusNet are willing to do this for you, bear in mind this is not a provided fearture on your account and your IP address maybe in a block which doesn't support rDNS at the moment.

Setting up a hostname on my new domain

All ranges support rDNS now chris Smiley this was fixzed about 6 months ago....

just raise it through contact us and we can set up rDNS to either of

username.plus.com - default
1_2_3_4.plus.com - where 1_2_3_4 is your IP
host.domain.co.uk - where domain.co.uk is hosted on your account

You can use the "Domain names" option of the Member Centre to set up an A type DNS record for the hostname:

Left - hostname
Type - A
Pri - [blank]
Right - 123.456.789.101 (your static IP address)

This only create forward records.

rDNS lookups (the process of converting a IP into a hostname) has to be done via the link:contact us system

I know this, but the hostname the IP address resolves to should also resolve back to the same IP address.
