SLOW Internet...

For some reason my internet really slows down at certain times...

Like now, my 56k connection would be faster.

Its not anything to do with the line - BT Speed Test works out

Im using a router with 4 other machines - so its not my PC

It speeds up sometimes but then its really slow...

I am on PlusNet Premier...

Ticket Support has not been much help!

Any idea whats causing this slowness?

SLOW Internet...

Hi there,

What are you actually doing when you notice this slowdown. Are you downloading or is it just general web browsing?

Have you checked all PC's on your network for Virus's, malware / Spyware?

SLOW Internet...

Yeah, at the moment I am just browsing, and its taken 5 seconds for this page to fully load.

I know all about computers etc so yeah I have checked all the machines etc... and I can't seem to work out whats slowing it all down.

At certain times the connection is VERY fast, but at other times its very slow...

At the risk of teaching you to suck eggs, can you disconnect the other workstations from the network and test the connection with each one individually?

Have you tried a power cycle of your router?

Done the try each machine individually, even got a friends laptop and tried that too - had no luck with that.

Power cycle of the router? Reboot it? Done that hundreds and thousands of times - lol Tongue

SLOW Internet...

Current speed tests using zdnet and internetfrog show my speeds to be around 160kbps, whereas the BT check seems to say its all fine.

The only conclusion I can come to is that its something to do with PlusNet Cry

RE: SLOW Internet...

My connection seems to be all over the show as well. I'm on 1Mbit and I've just been downloading from microsoft.com at a whopping 16kb/s. I'm also getting pathetically slow pings and traceroutes within the PN network. Patience is starting to wear a little thin.

And to make matters worse, the Tech Support people keep asking me to run BT checks when Ive done so! They worked out fine!

In that case all I can suggest is that you run a few BT Speedtests again and couple those with speed tests from ADSL Guide. Post the results to a ticket, explaining that you have tested your network and equipment and ask Plus Net to check your account profile.

Other than your router being on the blink, thats the only course that I can see which you can take.

I thought I would run the BT test again for the hell of it, and it reported 1.7Mpbs

Now Ive changed back to the plus net settings, my internet is fast again - I wonder how long it will stay this way... because usually it slows down again after 5 or so mins!
