Restricting speed on LAN

is it possible to restrict bandwidth? i have a home LAN and whenever the other computer downloadit takes up all my speed, is there a way to restrict that?

Not really, unless you have some specialist hardware.

Use a proper network setup rather than ICS ( Internet COnnection Sharing) if you are using that, with a router rather than a modem connected to a PC acting as a gateway.

If you are already doing this, ensure all your machines run at the same speed 10meg or 100meg and also use a switch instead of a hub, but it is unlikely to help you much.

Im interested in this too. I share my broadband through a router with 4 other computers. i like to play counterstrike and only need a 10k a sec connection. The problem is that half way through a game one of my associates will jump onto kazza and start downloading which takes up all the bandwidth. would be nice to say every one cant have more than 10k a sec each at busy times. is there nothing than can do this

If you use win XP then you can use QOS to do this.
