Reduced connection speed

In the last 6 months my connection speed appears to have dropped. Originally when I first joined Plus.net it was clocked at 2Mb but recently when I checked it was 1Mb. On the BT line tracker it indicates that I should be able to receive up to 5Mb!

My set up is a wireless connection using a Belkin 802.11g wireless router (the same as the one below) - copy and paste link!

Could it be the wireless link that is slowing things down? How do I check this? If you know how, can you please give step by step instructions as I am a bit of a beginner with these things.

Thanks for your help

DSLMax?!

It could be to do with the recent fiasco of being automatically "upgraded" to DSLMax!? As I and alot of others on these forums seem to be finding. I too was on a 2Mbps connection until being "Max'd". A couple of weeks back my speeds dropped to 128Kbps for several days, but have since stabilised at around 1Mbps in the last few days. Still half what I used to get! I'm still hoping that the speed will increase further!

So, in my opion, this new fangled "DSLMax" could be the cause of your speed problems at the mo.

If you think it is still your wireless link... has anything changed in where you position your router. Do you still get good signal strength? Your wireless adapter should report how strong the signal is. How far are you from the router? Is it possible you are getting interference from other devices/networks?! I'm no expert on debugging wireless connections, but I would have thought you should be able to get at some wireless adapter statistics to see how many errors you are getting in transmission. No errors, no problem.

Hope that helps, a bit.

Reduced connection speed

No nothing has changed as far as I know in terms of the router position, computer position.

Do I need to log a call with plus net?

Reduced connection speed

You can try I guess, or you can try the "Help Assistant" and see how far you get...

I hear support is a tad sluggish at the mo, so don't expect a quick response! There do seem to be a lot of people with connection speed issues at the current time, with the roll out of DSLMax, check out the thread...

Personally... my speed has picked up in the last couple of days, to nearly 2Mbps (almost back up to what it was several weeks ago!). Although there does seem to be a strange delay (is this latency?) at times!

Best of luck!
