Problem with MacOS9

Is anyone still using MacOS9.1? I am having problems with the ZyXEL 630-S modem as supplied by Plusnet using this Apple operating system which ZyXEL documentation says is supported.

Installation proceeds OK and the modem syncs (ADSL control panel shows communication and 1152Kbits/s and 288Kbits/sec on the two channels.

However, attempt to connect (either by opening an application or by the connect button on the Remote Access panel) immediately gives "Connection attempt failed: unexpected loss of connection. Check your connection and try again." The modem shows nothing untoward and continues in sync.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Switch to an ethernet routing modem (down to about £30 these days if you shop around). The added bonus is you get extra ethernet ports for other devices to share the connection with.

Yes - I am indeed now working using a router.

It was more the principle - the ZyXEL is supposed to work with MacOS9, but seems not to. I wondered whether anyone had actually got it to function satisfactorily.

I borrowed an OSX Mac. In typical Mac fashion, it just works.

So the ZyXEL hardware is OK. It would appear that the OS9
driver is the problem.
