May i say i have great service from Plusnet, but i have a problem. I don't think it is connected to the ISP, but perhaps someone here can help.

Recently i have been unable to access certain websites via both IE and Firefox, namely php-fusion.co.uk, and livejournal.com.

I've cleaned my dns cache, deleted all my cookies, history and temps - even reinstalled both programs. But to no avail.

While with IE i get the 'page cannot be displayed' blur, firefox tells me my connection was refused.

These sites don't use flash or java (i think) which may cause issues. What could be wrong?

Regards,

CK

Both load fine for me.
Try a tracert to see how far you're getting.

Are you running through a router or an ADSL modem connected to your PC?

There is a utility within Plusnet tools to optimise your connection.

There is an announcement on this forum relationg to MTU and is worth a read.

If you are using the supplied modem, there is a free utility avaialble for download call DrTCP.

You will find it through Google

Hey,

Ive just tried the tracert idea with livejournal. The end of the reply came back as (nopte, hops 1-10 are seemingly fine):

Hop 10 @ border9.ge6-1-bbnet2.sef.pnap.net. 0 miles [+0]

Hope 11 @ [Destination Unreachable] livejournal.com. 0 miles [+0]

Hope 12 @ [Unknown - Firewall did not respond] -1 miles [+0] 0 miles [+0]
Analysis:
Last hop responding to ICMP: 11, UDP: 11, TCP: 11.
There appears to be a firewall right after 66.150.15.150 (hop 11) that blocks ICMP, unwanted UDP, and unwanted TCP packets.

Does this help me at all, knowing this? What does it all mean?

It has been suggested by a friend that i should tyr connection to a different dns server.

Would this help, and how do i do such a thing?

Aha. The answer was so simple.

Perrguardian was set to block a number of somewhat important ports from passing information.

Turned off that particular setting, and all works fine Smiley
