Plusnet - Line dropping

I have had a problem with the line sporadically dropping for some weeks, Bt have checked my line twice now (site visit today) and found no issue with the copper wire.

Does anybody know whether the line can drop because of contention at +net or is that just a speed issue is caused by contention?

Does anybody else have an intermittent line problem at certain times ?
Why cant +net check their logs and ascertain patterns etc ?

Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Plusnet - Line dropping

I have had a similar problem.

What make are the splitters you are using ?

Are they YCL splitters ?

Do you lose connection when you make or receive a phone call ?

It turned out to be dodgy splitters for me - YCL filters are crap, or at least there is a batch of dodgy ones.

If you haven't already, I would go and replace your filters for another brand and try again - if this solves your problem then plusnet should replace the dodgy ones........

Dont make the same mistake I did and only replace the filter thats connected to your PC, you need to swap 'em all.

Hope this helps - let me know how you go on.

RE: Plusnet - Line dropping

I'm having the same sort of problems with my ADSL connection and am using YCL splitters/microfilters also.

I'm using an USB modem but I assume that the YCL's are causing the problems. My phone line sounds terrible with all the interference also.

I'm going to buy some new splitters and see how I get on.

RE: Plusnet - Line dropping

I've getting a similar problem for a couple of months. Have raised tickets/called many times always to receive the same advice: power down for 1/2 hour. No use when I've had to abandon an upload half way through. Never had problems for about a year and a half before, and this on a BT installed ADSL line.

Phone equipment can cause it...or too many extensions runn off the master BT socket..I got synch errors and drops all the time...i unplugged my extension leads and just had 1 phone and my usb modem in and it has behaved mostly ever since...

RE: Plusnet - Line dropping

Well, I'm fairly impressed (at the moment !)
I've been having a lot of "line-dropping" in the
three-odd weeks I've been with +Net, but have not
had time to complain yet.

Lo and behold, just received an email 5 mins ago
stating :

Subject: Your ADSL Starter Pack

Username: jetstream41

We have recently been made aware that a number of our ADSL Starter
Pack customers have had difficulties maintaining a consistent quality
of service on their connection.

On further investigation, we have isolated this fault to a batch of
ADSL telephone line "splitters" supplied with Starter Packs during
November between Friday 1st and Wednesday 20th.

As your Starter Pack was dispatched between the above dates, you may
be experiencing similar symptoms when connecting. We have therefore
arranged to send you a pair of new splitters from a different
manufacturer.

We will be dispatching 2 replacement splitters to your contact address
within the next 7 days. Please allow up to 14 days for delivery.

If you are in any doubt whether your splitters are working properly,
please replace your original splitters with the new ones. There is no
charge for the supply or P&P of these splitters.

Reminder:
There is no need to return either the original splitters or any unused
replacement splitters to PlusNet.

If you experience any difficulties with your ADSL Starter Pack after
you receive your new splitters, please contact a member of our
friendly Customer Support team via the PlusNet Portal -

RE: Plusnet - Line dropping

Thanks for the replies, plusnet have sent back to BT they think its the line, it dosen't seem to be a problem with my site (only one fairly new BT phone in master socket).

Interesting about the filters maybe I should be sent some to eliminate them.

Generally line quality Ok about 55-58KB/sec, it just drops a few times a day, this reconnects without powerdown etc. so seems to indicate external (to my PC/house) problem.

Interesting about AMD/XP I will look because I have Athlon 500mz (old) and I am running XP.

Ignore that last post- even with z420 splitters you wont get your AMD working without a fight!
