OMFG - 300 bytes / second and falling on 1Mb ADSL

Had to download the WinMTR program on my laptop as I gave up after 2 hours downloading the 256KB file at 200 bytes/second on my 1Mb ADSL connection!!!!

My Traceroute results:

<html><head><title>WinMTR Statistics</title></head><body bgcolor="white">
<center><h2>WinMTR statistics</h2></center>

Started running the plusnet speed tests like half an hour ago and still waitng on it to finish.

Slightly peeved,

John.

Hi

You would be better posting your info into http://cgi.support.plus.com/faultreporting/ or posting a plaintext copy rather than HTML copy into the forums.

Hi there,

If your connection is so slow as to be unusable, and I can see no particular problems with your traceroute, then give us a call and we will be able to test your line for problems.

First and last hops are just denying Ping replies.

First hop is your router
Last is www.Mirror.ac.uk which is set to block ICMP's aka pings

@ CS better change that default trace url as answer above, guess they got sick of ping's from PN.

OMFG - 300 bytes / second and falling on 1Mb ADSL

So how come I can goto a dos prompt and get a result when I type ping 10.0.0.2 (which is my reuters IP address)

results are 4 packets sent, 4 re\ceived, 0% packetloss.

Approximate round trip time in miliseconds
minimum=0ms, maximum=34ms, average=7ms

If I run "tracert www.mirror.ac.uk" I get an error:

"Unable to resolve target system name www.mirror.ac.uk"

huh?

Mirror.ac.uk has effectively closed down. Could you try tracerting "www.linx.net" as this is a suitable alternative.

10.0.0.2 is an internal local ip address known only to your network. Your router will allow this probably through a mixture of SPI and NAT. The traceroute was performed from an external host contacting you, whereby your routers firewall would have dropped the ICMP packets... hence no response. Perfectly normal.
