Not getting 8mbps - why?

Hi,

My Connection Settings is reporting that 'Your current broadband speed is 8000 Kbps', however I'm only getting a 2mbps connection.

Now this could well be my fault in not reconnecting my router periodically when they put me on Max - but I don't remember getting an email when that happened (but may well have done).

I'm using a Netgear DG834 with the latest firmware installed (yesterday).

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php is reporting that I live 600m from the exchange (it's round the corner).

My connection settings are reported as:

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s
WAN PPPoA 359938 346534 0 285 1254
LAN 10M/100M 349012 361997 0 1304 352

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2272 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 19 db 5 db
Noise Margin 31 db 30 db

Telnetting into the router and checking my interleave values (as per http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.htm) suggest interleave is off, but I expect this is wrong.

The bt speed tester is reporting:
BT speedtester: 1797 kilo bits per second (Kbps)

Is there anything I can do to get 8mpbs?

Thanks,
Tom

288 up isnt maxdsl speed. Did you opt in for the upgrade?

Not getting 8mbps - why?

Well I think so. As I mentioned above, in My Account settings in the plusnet member centre, the High Speed Broadband option states: "Your current broadband speed is 8000 Kbps". This is why I assumed I should be getting upto 8Mbps. Is that correct?

I've just realised - I'm assuming the term Max relates to the 8Mbps product. If not then forget the Max issue.

I'm just after 8Mbps downstream.

If it says 8000k in your account you should be upgraded , its just the 288 bit is standard adsl, might need a nudge from PN. Maybe raise a ticket or wait for James to get here.
Your connection speed is the standard 2mb , same here Cheesy
They changed it a while back so you had to request upto8mb

edit: I think the 8000k is from LLU,

Hi abnett,

Your line was still provisioned on 2MB, I have placed an order to have this changed to MAX (upto 8MB) and this should complete tomorrow.

I have created a ticket on your account and I will use this to confirm when the order is complete.
