New router: RWIN is 64676 and MTU is 1446

The router is the SMC Barricade 7404BRA. I've just done a few speed tests and it seems to be getting 108-112Kbps max on my 1MB line. However, a lot of the time it suddenly drops down to 90, 80, 70, and even 60.

I believe these are the values that the router gives, as if I plug in my USB modem it goes to RWIN=17520 and MTU=1500. The RWIN I now have with my new router seems far to high, don't you think? I can't find anywhere in the router to chnage the RWIN or MTU so is it possible to do it all on my NIC using DrTCP?

Thanks.

Never heard of a router setting RWIN before.
There may be a firmware issue regarding the
MTU of 1446, some routers work better with lower
MTU. You can change MTU on your pc with DrTCP,
however you would only be able to use a value equal
or lower than 1446. I would suggest setting it to equal
your router. Change RWIN with DrTCP to your
prefered value in multiples of 1406 (if using MTU 1446).
Try 30939 and lower .
Check to see that your new value of RWIN hasn't been
changed back using the DSLreports tweaktest.
