Network or switch computers?

I have a PC that is connected to Plusnet via Dynamode USB modem to Broadband connection all working well. I have recently purchased a Sony Vaio laptop. How difficult would it be to link the two? (both on Win XP) Are we talking network?
Alternatively, could I just connect my laptop to the modem for internet access & temporarily disconnect the PC?
Any advise appreciated.
Thanks, Geoff

What your will be doing is running "Internet Connection Sharing". This is a type of network. Both PC's will net to have a network cards and be connected by a crossover cable. The machine to which the modem is connected must always be on for the other machine to connect.
Then you can install the relevent protocols

There are lots of overviews and tutorials on the net for Internet Connection Sharing, just type it into a search engine.

Of course, you could also do as you say, and simply swap the modem form one PC to the other.

Or use a router and connect either machine independently or both simultaneously.
