Netgear DG834 blocks Windows XP Messenger

I would like to create some rules to allow me to have a voice conversation in messenger and to use my new webcam. At the moment I send a request the other end accepts, msg connecting then all comes to an end.

I am able to send typed instant messages.

I would also like to create a rule that will let me see where my 13 year old son is surfing. If necessary create a rule to restict his activities.

Thanks,
Peter

I have had the same problem for ages. I dont know what equipment you are using but I eventualy got it all to work.
I have a D-Link DSL 504 router which provides NAT (Network address translation) and this throws messenger off.
I had to do the following to make it work properly.

1. Upgrade router to a Generation II type which supports UpnP (universal plug and play)
2. forward the ports needed for audio and webcam to the machine I wanted to use for it.
3. Use version 6.1 of messenger.(MSN)
4 Use Windows Xp which supports UPnP.

So as you can see quite a lot of hassle to make it work.

For MSN ect goto
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/deploy/worki...

That has all the info on port you need to open etc.

To check on your son and stop him use a free proxy server.
