Mozilla Firefox v Internet Explorer speedteest

Below are the results from a number of speedtests I've done today using the Plusnet tester. All the high results (>1900) are when I use IE as my browser. All the lower results are when I use Firefox.

Is it just me or is this a common result?

Mozilla Firefox v Internet Explorer speedteest

My Internet Exploder is crippled, so I can't do a direct comparison, but ....

I'm on a 1 Mb line. On various other speed tests, and on some fairly biggish actual downloads from decent sites, the indication is that I'm getting between 900 and 920.

On the PlusNet speed test I only got 817.8

Now, this is hardly exhaustive, just a few results, so may be coincidence, but .........
It does say that it's "not compatible with many pop-up blockers".
Firefox has one built in.
So - went to Tools>Options>Web Features, unticked the pop-up blocking, and re-ran the test.
Result - a much better 915, comparable with what I get elsewhere.
Went back and ticked it, re-ran the test.
Result - down to 745.6

So, unless this was just luck, it looks as though, as far as Firefox is concerned, "not compatible" could mean "it won't actually refuse to operate but your results will be screwed".

Thanks Gordon,

I really thought that you had the obvious answer so I unchecked the popup blocker which I had forgotten about, rebooted the machine and did the following 6 tests....

27-06-2005 07:39:51 971.8
27-06-2005 07:38:41 953.6
27-06-2005 07:37:51 953.6
27-06-2005 07:36:14 1871.7
27-06-2005 07:35:46 1988.3
27-06-2005 07:35:20 1896.3

<1000 = Firefox
>1000 = IE

Any other ideas?

Mozilla Firefox v Internet Explorer speedteest

Hi
Can't see it being the basic browser that's to blame.
I've just run these Plusnet speed tests

27-06-2005 08:19:28 1904.6
27-06-2005 08:19:04 1918.9
27-06-2005 08:18:48 1927.3
27-06-2005 08:18:31 1921.5
27-06-2005 08:17:09 1948.4
27-06-2005 08:16:51 1905.8
27-06-2005 08:16:34 1937.5
27-06-2005 08:15:20 1871.8
27-06-2005 07:58:00 1883.7
27-06-2005 07:57:38 1871.7

The middle four are IE and the top and bottom three are firefox, so there doesn't look to be anything in it.

Is your firefox perhaps loaded with addons and plugins that slow it down?
Mine's pretty basic, having only the adblock, weather and that thing to let you go back by wggling your mouse over and above what came when I downloaded it.
