MTU Tweak Information - How to

If you want to 'Tweak' your DSL speeds try this website http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

I was steered here by another Plusnet customer via my post in the Plusnet Community News Forum http://community.plus.net/ or http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php?topic=144.0

My last 'speed check' vis the Plusnet site came back at 5000kbps. Bit different ot the speeds I was getting earlier this week. I was very lucky to achieve 1500kbps

I presume you have gone through the tweak page on DSLreports.

I made the mistake of putting my attainable speed in and later was informed by a wiser man to put in your advertised speed i.e. 8000.

I am currently using the settings
RWIN 130200
MTU 1500

Hi Davlo, after various tests, the above appear to be the lowest I can get. These are based on your settings.
Do you consider these figures acceptable,or too high.

I'm only passing on information that I had given to me by another Forum blogger.

I needed help to sort out my slow connection. I really have no idea about noise, attenuation etc. I am a only just starting to understand all this myself. You can get more help here

MTU Tweak Information - How to

Ok your rwin and mtu may be a bit high how is your speed with those settings ?

If your using a router you should have an option to change the MTU within the setup pages this is a good idea as then windows and the router see the same value, if not then just use DRTCP

Try these settings save then reboot and see if it makes any difference

MTU Tweak Information - How to

Hi Holdtight, I have tried your settings and my speed didn't alter ie.1.4Mbps. BT have my line set at 1500Mbps.However my connection speed did drop slightly to 1984Kbps.
I have taken a look through my Router pages but couldn't find Option to change MTU.(possibly I couldn't see the wood for the trees).
I only applied wireless connection last week and BT upgraded my speed from 1000Mbps to 1500Mbps after 3 days. but still hopeing for more. Wink

If you go to this site, http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks and carry out the test, (you might have to be patient, the site has limited capacity and is very popular)

On the results page, enter DSL, 8000 (if your on 8mb), operating System (i.e. WinXP), and normal.

You will get a page of results, but at the bottom are the recommendations.

It is wise to download the tool, DRTCP and run it to make the changes.

I have change my RWIN to 151008 and MTU to 1500.
However, for some reason, my MTU reverts back to 1400 and I have no idea why.

Still, the improvement in the speeds and reliability are vastly improved. Depending on the site I am downloading from, I have seen speeds of 650kbps.
