Line only 512K at present

Having put in for my upgrade to PN I am now told that BT say my line cannot take more than 512. No other explanaiton. I note from the BT upgrade pdf that Taunton mis not due for 'upgrade' until May/June. Does this imply that my speeds could be increased at this time or am I stuck for ever.

If I am stuck who do I complain to at BT to look at the line?

If you line does not support higher speeds now, then it wont when the upgrades take place later in the year.

Did PN provide any line stats, or do you have any available?

For a 1Mb line, you must have a Line Attenuation with an absolute maximum of 60dB. For a 2Mb line you must have a Line Attenuation with an absolute maximum of 43dB.

BT are pretty strict about these at the moment, hence the manual regrade failing.

Where abouts are you in Taunton? I go to college there.

Where can I get these figures?

I work at the hospital by the way.

Are you using a router or a modem? Most decent routers show line stats, USB modems rarely do.

Otherwise, if you don't have the results of a woosh test in one of your tickets already, raise a ticket to PN asking them to carry one out. This will give you your line stats.

I have the following from a hidden router page

Upstream Noise Margin 26 dB

Downstream Noise Margin 22 dB

Output Power Upstream 12 dBm
Downstream 18 dBm

Attenuation Upstream 31.5 dB
Downstream 57 dB
