Latency!!!

Hi,

Just a question too the plusnet fans, been playing my mate on enemy territory the past 2 nights, and he's on AOL  and i of course PlusNet Wink . the thing im pondering over is i was checking out his ping quite alot in the game and monitoring it between mine, and 60% of the time his was lower, more stable, and had less spikes! now im not putting plusnet down or anything but i used to be with AOL and hated there ping, looks like they have sorted it out, but didn't think there would be no competition with plusnet's latency, shocked!!!

Thanks Wink

My pings are normally very good though it does depend on where the site is hosted ect though apart from my router is setup incorrectly 30ms accross the board........

Latency!!!

Would say its more likely to be poor routing from either end.

Theres a game server I use, that usually I can ping externally 60-70 and about 80 in game. But its on a BTO ADSL line, so any other BT user usually has a better ping to it, on avergae 20 less than mine. Another I admin I get 30-40 externally and roughly 50 in game, but others on BTO ADSL or worse NTL cable get nearer 90, so swings and round abouts as far as ping is concerned for game servers.

But [theres always one but], it might be a temporary bad ping. Check via regular ping traces at peek and off peek times for the server. I know the server I admin is having difficulty with an external bandwidth provider that is throwing the odd ping spike and lately packetloss. So to get it fixed you need proof, so keep the ping traces and use a name for that game server including the date and time unless the the utility you use adds the time of the trace.
