A friend of mine (plusnet client) is losing his adsl connection everytime he switches his computer off, the line works fine when he has made a new connection, any ideas?

He's using a Dynamode usb modem

LOST CONNECTION

If he powers down his computer then he has no connection.
The USB modem is powered by his PC.

He will need a standalone router to keep the connection live or keep his PC on all the time.

LOST CONNECTION

Hi,

Chris is correct in this regard - unlike a router, a USB modem is powered by the PC it's connected to (and it is also the PC which maintains the PPP connection neccessary for internet connectivity).

LOST CONNECTION

First of all, many thanks for the replies.

My set up is the same as my pals, with one exception, I have a usb hub which is always powered up, and even though I switch my computer off nightly, I have had no problems.Consequently, I suggested that he follow the same route and bobs ya uncle-problem has disappeared, needed your help though.
