Is this what I need?

Hello All,

I have signed up this week and so will be joining the world of broadband ADSL.

I have gone for the self install and so have to purchase my own router. Could anyone offer me some support in what they would say is a good router. I have always enjoyed the performance I have had from my USR and so I would like to go with a name I can trust. I am not sure though if the USR18000 is what I am supposed to be looking at.

From what I understand is I need an ADSL router and so is this going to do the job or do I need some sort of modem built in?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

RE: Is this what I need?

Hi,

You will need to purchase either a router with an inbuilt modem or a router that will accept connection from an ADSL modem (such as the Vigor 2200USB from Draytek). Some routers with in built modems are : -

Alcatel Speedtouch 510
Netgear DG814
Vigor 2600 (available end May)

Unless you specifically want a router (to share your connection) an ADSL modem would do the job and would be much easier to set-up.

Hope this helps.
