Is it fair for PlusNet to blame BT?

Hi everyone
I signed up for the PlusNet 2mb Premier service back in late August and have been extremely disappointed with my connection speed. I have on very rare occasions (usually around 9am) had full speed. Otherwise, I average out around 500kbps, on top of which my connection drops every so often. I have used both BT Speedtest and the PlusNet speedtest. Often my speed is as low as 200mbps, and doing any streaming or using Skype has become a distant dream to me.
Now I have had an open ticket on this for a little while whilst PN look into it, so i've done all the testing from my end (including using the Voyager modem with a virgin laptop), and the problem does not lie there. They tell me that as far as BT are concerned, getting 400mbps on a 2000mbps rated line is acceptable. Well...that may be acceptable to BT, but it sure ain't acceptable to me. I joined the Premier service because i wanted some guarantee that i would have an adequate connection for my needs. So far, all i have got is a lot of frustration and a bald patch!
Is it fair for PN (or any ISP) to advertise a 2000mbps connection in the full knowledge that even their Premier customers are unlikely to get even half of that for the majority of the time. Reading through these forums, it seems to me that many people have had a decent connection until recently. Is it something PN have done that they are keeping us in the dark about, or have BT become maxed out (as they suggest)?
As for me...if i don't get my connection speed up to adaequate levels soon then i'm off to someone that doesn't require BT as a backbone. I used to use NTL, and while their customer service sucks, the line was stable enough that I didn't need to use them too much. Also they have no third party to blame. I think i might be going back to cable soon.

@mbalmer,
I too know exactly what you mean. I have been with PN now for well over a year and started initially on 512. I upgraded to 2Mb back in May and have enjoyed great speeds since, well until about a week and a half ago. Then it all suddenly went wrong. I started getting incredibly useless speeds ranging from anywhere in between 45KB/s - 220KB/s.
You should see the speed tests I have done (i did em one after another to capture the lovely yo-yo effect my connection speed was impersonating)

Looks pretty cool huh. Unfortunately PN have also said that they could do nothing. BT would claim my line was as sound as a pound and that (what I felt I was told was - DEAL WITH IT).
Ok so my exchange is maxed out, could this be the problem, sure it might be, but then why are my neighbours and everyone else I know in this small town getting superb speeds of around 230 - 240 KB/s constant?
If it was seriously a contented issue they too would be suffering the same effects would they not? Apparently not, meanwhile I am left out in the cold.
Oh well, I will simply have to 'Deal with it' as no cable is available round here Sad

Well, it's bad luck that you are not cabled where you are. I would, however, be happy to get your results. Check out mine.

@tomspcs, unfortunatley your connection speed doesn't drop below the magical 400 figure that BT require before they will consider doing anything. As such there is nothing plus can do presuming your speed problems are on BT side of things (i.e. showing in a BT speedtest)

@mbalmer, your speedtests do drop below 400 thus BT should do something, if you get no further it may be worth flagging this up to the comms team, Dave (dtomlinson) seems to be around most at the minute, try PM'ing him.

Daniel, yes you are right. I am also extremely shocked to see the results from mbalmer.
However anyone would try and do the best they can to have the problem resolved regardless of what BT deem acceptable or not. Lets face it, if BT thought they could get away with it they would tell you getting a dl speed of 5k is perfectly normal and acceptable.
All anybody really wants is the service to which they subscribed, wouldnt you agree? :?:

To be fair, I should have edited out the "0" result. That arose because I forgot to turn off Norton. Doesn't detract from the other appalling results tho.

No, I have got to admit that I would have died on the spot if my speeds showed up as being anywhere near yours.
This being said I am not saying I am happy about mine either.
Once again all in all, the only thing we all ask for are the speed which we were told we would get, not just a package called premier 2mb with speeds of a 56k or 512.
