Intermittent time-out when downloading files.

Hi
Im having problems with my PlusNet ADSL ever since i purchased a router to replace my modem. It's a Aceex AR11 (the one plusnet used to give away last year i think). Its also branded as a Micronet SP3350A, and uses the Alcatel chipset. I've got this connected directly to my Realtek Network card with a crossover cable. I've updated the firmware with the latest one from micronet's site (Version 2.7V3). The PC is running WIndows 2000, as it was when the ADSL modem was installed

When I download files (via http or ftp), the download will fail after a period of time. e.g. after 50mb, forcing me to resume the download. The time it takes to fail varies - sometimes it hangs after just 2mb's have been downloaded, others it will download a 100mb file with no interruptions. The adsl link doesnt disconnect, just the transfer. This happens on all sites i go to (e.g ftp.mirror.ac.uk). Also sometimes when loading webpages, the page just stops loading halfway, forcing me to refresh to load the page up again.

I've tried changing the MTU to 1458 on both the router and the network card as recommended by BT/Plusnet, since I heard this could be the cause of the problem, but it didn't solve it. I've also tried different crossover cables, and a different network card in the PC.

Any ideas on solving this problem would be great
Thanks
Andrew.

Intermittent time-out when downloading files.

Update:
I captured a PPP log of my connection during a broken download (with the serial cable connection on the back of the router)

This is during downloading:

It seems to be pinging something or other (?), then the download freezes, forcing me to resume it. My MTU is set to 1430 on the PPP log but i get the same results with other settings.

I'm hoping someone can shed light on this mystery. Does anyone else have problems with this router ? Can anyone decipher the PPP log and explain why this is stopping my downloads?

These are ATM pings, and are just the same as TCP/IP pings. They require a reply.

OK well i solved the problem.
After weeks of frustration, I found out that the only firmware that works properly is 2.6f (very old). Downloads now work fine on the firmware revision. This is not a Micronet firmware, but the one from

Thanks for all the input.
