How do i set-up my laptop pc to connect to host PC

Ok this is the first time i've ever had two moderen computers and the first time im attempting to network them both together on the same connection.

Simple question:

The host PC is running D-LINK 200 USB modem, and on the Network Connections (under control panel) i see i have an active 1394 network adaptor running on the main PC.

The host pc has a LAN socket, and the Laptop has a LAN socket also, if i were to buy a LAN cable and connect the LAN from the laptop to the host pc running the USB modem and the internet, would this enable me to use the net on the laptop?.

Both PC's use Windows XP Home.
i have never used the LAN connections before,
only the USB modem so i don't know, and that's why i ask

Yes and no.

First off, 1394 is the firewire/i.link port of the machine.

It there is a still a seperate LAN connector, it would like this may either be disabled, or need it's drivers installing.

Otherwise, Using ICS ont he host machine should work.

I don't know if XP Home does ICS, but it might.

Don't forget to get a crossover network lead, not a normal 'Patch' lead.
