Hi, today I have been to a local specialist computer dealer and the guy installed on my laptop an Edimax ADSL Modem Router, plus a NetGear 802.11g card. All I had to do when I got home was plug in and go. Well I should know from past experience things never go smoothly for me, and I have spentfour hours now looking through all the booklets and various stuff and got nowhere. Also been on the phone to someone else who works with this sort of thing all the time, and still can get nowhere. I can connect, no problem, signal strength excellent at 11mpbs. But I cannot get a single webpage, every one in any of my browsers (I use IE and Opera) just says cannot find ....... digitalspy etc etc etc. Also I cannot get any of my email, error message says cannot find host pop.virgin etc.
Can anyone please help and tell me what I need to alter to enable me to use a set up which has cost me £120 today!
I am currently using my original modem (the BT Voyager) which is useless with my laptop.
Hi - I've read your other posts (and indeed answered a couple a week or so ago) and wonder if you've had any joy with this issue? My Brother in Law had a similar problem re connection and found it was the main BT socket that was the problem. His is a new house and when the 'phone line was put in the main socket also housed the wiring for the extensions. So when the instructions for his Modem said he must attach it to the main BT socket through the filter he thought just plugging it into that socket was fine. When a BT engineer called after a load of hassle he explained he had to unscrew the front plate of the BT socket and connect via the specific wires inside! His problem was then solved.
If your BT wiring is fairly old I don't think this is the answer but if its been put in or altered in the last 5 years or so it may be this is the problem!
