HELP with VPN's

When trying to create a connection through my router I am asked for the VPN host address or IP number.
I assumed through reading postings on this forum that this should be my static IP number, But am getting an error 751 The remote computer refused the VPN connection.

It seems that I assumed incorrectly. Can anyone put me right.

The Host VPN address is the address you want to connect to/terminate the VPN (e.g. your offices gateway) not your own address.

When I try to create a connection through the DUN I am offered my 56K modem or Microsoft VPN adapter

On selecting the vpn adapter Iam asked for the IP or hostname

I do not have a network other than between my pc and router.

Been trying to connect for 8 weeks to no avail and amrapidly going bald with pulling hair out.

HEEEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPP.
