Get disconnected

I had a smouthwall firewall installed with an US-Robotics 9000 external USB modems. I was disconnected very often. I tried windows XP, because I thought that the beta version firewall/drivers should probably be problem. Still the same story, disconnected every 5 to 30 min (uniformly distributed). I also tried my second pc as a gateway. The problem remained.

Finally I plugged the modem to my laptop. Seems that works fine.

I suspect the USB port fails. Do you guys have any idea what's wrong? Have any of you experienced similar problem?

RE: Get disconnected

Do you know what motherboard you have?

If it has 4 USB ports,

(2 onboard, and 2 through a little panel that plugs into the motherboard)
try it with it plugged into a diferent usb port (namely the onboard ones)

If your motherboard has a via chipset then it is common for people to have problems with USB.
There are a few settings in the bios which may or may not fix this.

Let me know what board you have and i'll give you some settings to try.

RE: Get disconnected

My first motherbord is an old QDI Advanced 5/133 with an Apollo Pro-Plus chipset. (VT82C694 system controller).

Unfortunatly, it has got 2 usb ports. Doesn't have the onboard ones.
