Email download causes PC to freeze

Hi

Currently having problems when downloading emails from the plusnet servers.

Seems to start downloading but is held at 70% at which point the PC is either extremely slow or most times freezes. Strangely, the cursor moves around (although stutters/freezes on it's way around) but will not cancel download or close application. Even ctrl, alt, del seems to take 2-3 minutes (ish) just to present the task manager/shutdown window.

However, when it gets there I cannot get the task manager to start to see what’s hogging the PC. Only way out is to warm boot the PC to gain back control.

Using Win 2K SP4 with Outlook 2002 SP3. Problem started Monday.

Anyone else experiencing the same or similar problem?

Have you got your mail down? Its likely its just one big email thats doing it. If you can use the webmail and get rid of any big email and then try it.

If its a big file its oftenthe AV that scans it coming down that gives the problem. You can try turning off AV for a bit and see if that helps.

Thanks for the inspiration Mwright. It wasn't a large email but a corrupt or damaged email and by going into webmail and deleting all emails first (most are spam) it fixed the problem. Now working ok.
