Email Problem

I can't seem to access my email via Outlook Express. It was fine untill yesterday but now I get the following errors :-

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Barry', Server: 'mail.plus.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.plus.net (1)', Server: 'mail.plus.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Webmail seems fine.

Any ideas?

If you have not already done so try a cold boot of your PC.
I have had this in the past and a reboot sorted it out.

IF a reboot does not sort it, your Outlook Express setting have become corrupt.
A quick search on Google with the error numer 0x800CCC0E will bring up a number of results.

Also if you have a separate router try a power cycle on it.

Also try the usual tests with firewall and ant-virus scanner disabled

A reboot seems to solve it, but it's happening all the time!

Bloody annoying ...

Then it's something local on your own PC.
I can't tell you what though as it's only happened a couple of time to me and each time I can't recall what event or program was running before I tried to check my mail.

Try a different mail client such as Eudora (OK, some will moan, but mine works OK) or Thunderbird.
Have you tried looking into the settings of yoru firewall & antivirus as petervaughan said , as it seems like some sort of timeout?Huh

Is port 110 the correct port for the lpus.net mailserver?

Port 110 is the normal incoming POP3 server port you connect on - i.e. mail.plus.net

What is lpus.net and how does this relate to your problem?

Plusnet use mail.plus.net for port 110, and relay.plus.net for port 25 (SMTP outgoing).

I would expect lpus.net is just a typo for plus.net Cool

plus.net is still not the mail server though which is why I queried it.

It was indeed a typo Shockedops:

I was just trying to configure my firewall to see if it was that which is stopping my mail from working
