DSL exchange contention ratio

Hello

I understand that on my DSL package my contention ratio is 50:1 so worst case is I will be surfing with 49 other people and we all take a share of the 512kbps

However is this anybody with any ISP on my exchange or just Plusnet members on my Exchange who I will be contending with for bandwidth ?

I have no problem with my current speed in fact very happy with it Cheesy , just wondering what will happen when others start to sign up for DSL from the same exchange should I expect my download speeds to drop ?

Also do the MTU settings I see people talking about apply if I connect through an ethernet router instead of a USB one ?

Bandwidth is shared between users from other ISP's aswell.
The 'burst' nature of ADSL means you should get decent speeds
even on a contended line, provided that the VP (virtual pipe/path)
your on is running within it's capacity.
You should get some improvement with tweaking MTU & RWIN
even behind a router, so experiment Smiley

There is a contention FAQ in the FAQ and Tutorial forum. This will give you some in depth detail on contention.
