Could my Router really be causing these speeds ?

I am staking all my hopes on a change of Router that PN will hopefully deliver next week. My question is could my Router really be causing the following speeds, it seems like i'm getting slower and slower, i might as well use a 56k modem.

Date Speed Achieved (kbps)
28-04-2007 20:47:47 99.5
28-04-2007 20:47:07 98.2

27-04-2007 14:18:19 478.8
27-04-2007 12:21:21 484.9
27-04-2007 10:50:24 480
26-04-2007 14:14:49 492.2
25-04-2007 22:02:56 2823.5
24-04-2007 15:48:57 1918.9
23-04-2007 19:30:19 964.6
23-04-2007 17:24:04 930.3
23-04-2007 17:23:00 981.8
23-04-2007 14:06:39 2545.2
23-04-2007 09:14:50 211
22-04-2007 20:12:41 898.8

Are these eratic speeds or what ?

I still cant fathom out what could be causing the re syncs as this is not an isolated occurence this is all the time.
How can i go from 211 kb to 2.5 mb then down to 981 kb etc etc I suppose i want someone to tell me yes i had the same problem until i changed my router and Bingo !

The BT speed test makes even worse reading:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 250 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 896 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 58 kbps

Could my Router really be causing these speeds ?

Routers are better as they dont rely on the o/s but I wouldnt expect miracles. Your performance suggests something sadly wrong which may be related to the weather or other external event. We need your line stats etc

This page shows how to get the stats on most hardware:

Certainly I would say that resyncs are causing the lower speeds because it's resync'ing at a lower rate which is lowering the IP profile.

If you haven't had a look at this:

it's worth a read to see if anything there helps as well.
