Could i get the 1meg?

My router shows a line attenuation of 52.1 db downstream and 31.5 upstream?? i live about 3 miles from the exchange.

Thanks

Currently, no.

45dB is the maximum downstream attenuation on on enabled line.

However, BT may release details of reducing these limits around late September. Watch this space.

What do you mean about the BT thingy, you're saying maybe a db of 52 will be ok, or they are doing summat to reduce the db on the BT lines.??

Shame my db isn't good enough, but there again i wasn't thinking of having 1meg at the moment.

To reduce the attenuation on lines, they would nearly have to install whole blocks of new lines back to the exchange. Considering the cost in this is high and charged by the meter, it is very unlikely.

Your talking Millions of pounds per street.

Instead, they are taking the much cheaper route of enabling lines in an extended reach trial. Based on the results of this, they may extend it to a 1Mb trial.

At a later date, they will then say if they are willing to increase and allow higher attenuations to get 1Mb.
