As a layman to all this I'm a little confused by what all this "up to 8mb" business. There has definitely been some sort of upgrade to my connection and now when I hover over my connection icon in my desktop tray it says "speed:6.3Mbps", it used to be on 2.2Mbs. All smashing and I'm very pleased - thank you PlusNet!

However, I'm really confused by the results of the speedtest I ran. The BT speedtest got me this result:

IP profile for your line is - 5500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 6304 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1949 kbps

Does that marry-up with the 6.3Mbs result?

Putting "Speedtest" into Google gave me other testers and gave me "Download: 2043 kb/s Upload 373 kb/s". gave me a similar result. gave me a result of "Your bandwidth speed is 1.91 Mbps"

If anyone could give me a brief laymans guide as to what these results mean for me I'd be very grateful. Have I had an upgrade? Am I on a "great" connection speed these days?

Cheers for now

Check this page

It will prob tell you your speed is 2000

Also how long is it since you think you have been upgraded, ADSLMax needs 10 days to find the best speed for your line, and it could be you are still in a training period. If you have a modem, try rebooting once a day, and things should improve. If not run a BT speed test, and rasie a ticket, with your IP profile mentioned, as its probably stuck.

If its been more than 10 days, raise a ticket asking for your profile to be raised. If you are lucky, one of the comms guys will wander past and pick this up.
