my connection has been pretty dodgy since ive connected to 2mbit ADSL , odd disconnections, speeds going down and up again. and sometimes very difficult to sync with the exchange.
Here are some speed tests i ran before :-
Downstream 704 Kbps (88.0 KB/sec) 760 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 240 Kbps (30.0 KB/sec) 259 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Downstream 862 Kbps (107.8 KB/sec) 930 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 240 Kbps (30.0 KB/sec) 259 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Downstream 1067 Kbps (133.4 KB/sec) 1152 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 159 Kbps (19.9 KB/sec) 171 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Downstream 749 Kbps (93.6 KB/sec) 808 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 240 Kbps (30.0 KB/sec) 259 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Downstream 155 Kbps (19.4 KB/sec) 167 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 241 Kbps (30.1 KB/sec) 260 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Downstream 1781 Kbps (222.6 KB/sec) 1923 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 239 Kbps (29.9 KB/sec) 258 Kbps (inc. overheads)

my router generally reports 50 db , and 3 SNR. And that would seem to be the cause of my problems however why would bt have even connected me if it was so bad, so maybe it has something to do with a bad microfilter , or my *very* bad setup at the moment.

basically its this :-

the ones circled in red are the only ones being used however the others are plugged in etc just unused currently.

So could these being plugged in be the cause of all the problems ?

i have just bought 3 high quality microfilters which should be arriving on monday or tuesday hopefully.

So whats the best thing to test / mess with here to check if its a problem with range / plusnet or my dodgy setup ?

and howcome my speeds are so random ?

im using a draytek vigor 2600G

Is the splitter in the diagram the ADSL filter/splitter or just a normal 1 ->2 phone socket doubler.

If it is an ADSL filter/splitter, your setup is wired wrong because you have your ADSL modem, 56k modem and phone (on the right hand side) all connected to the ADSL side of the filter/splitter. Phones and 56K modem must only be connected to the phone side of the filter/splitter (as your phone on th eleft hand side is) and musr all connect through a filter/splitter.

I suggest you look at the following tutorial: ADSL: Wiring and Filters and somehow work out how to rewire your setup. In other words the phone & modem on the right must be connected to the phone side of a filter/splitter and not the ADSL side. This may be what s causing fluctuations in your speeds.
