Cannot access mailboxes with Mozilla Thunderbird

I have recently moved over to PlusNet and am having trouble accessing a mailbox that I have set up. I can fetch all mail from Postmaster but when I try to access the mailbox my login fails - everytime. :x I can send mail from Thunderbird but not receive from any other mailbox.

I am using Mozilla Thunderbird and here are my settings:
Server type: POP
Server name: mail.plus.net
Port: 110 (default)
Username: username+mailbox_name
Password: mailbox password
SMTP server: relay.plus.net (default), relay1.plus.net (alternative)
Port: 25
No username & Password.
Use Secure Password: No.

For something that is supposed to be easy to set up this is proving to be extremely tiresome.

How long have you given it after creating the mailbox?

It can take between 5 to 30 mins IIRC to creat the mailbox.

If after 24 hours it still isn't activated, I would raise a link:contact us ticket.

Any luck? I've downloaded Thunderbird but haven't installed yet and wondering if it is a workable option. I use Firefox and am very happy with that.

Thuinderbird does work with PlusNets Mail system in both POP3 and IMAP modes so I would set it up and try it out.

I can vouch for Thunderbird as well, works fine with my multiple mailboxes on Plusnet using POP3.

relay1 is only necessary for very old versions of netscape which can't connect without SMTP authentication (it's a bug). Relay1 just ignores this whereas relay would reject the connection.

Thunderbird works perfectly well on relay.plus.net and that is the one people should use.

Yes I had problems with thunderbird, but it was strange. It worked for ages and then suddenly for some reason it would authenticate my password anymore.

I tried re-installing it, but it wouldn't work. So in the end I went over to outlook.

Tools
Accounts
Outgoing Server
Make sure that the Username and password Box is UNCHECKED.

It seems that there is a fairly huge bug in Thunderbird that needs addressing.

Hi,
I have been using Thunderbird for outgoing mail to PlusNet for some time Only time I had a problem was when I screwed my firewall settings.

My settings on the 'Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings' page are:-

Server Name: Relay.plus.net
Port: 25
Use name and password: not ticked
Use secure connection: no

I am currently using version 0.9 but have used older ones.Cannot comment on problems with pop3 mail collection as I do not use it for that.

Thank you so much for this. I was going nuts wondering why my password was being rejected. Thunderbird had it ticked by default...... :?
