Can anybody shed any light on a binatone 2100 ADSL 4 port router, sometimes it is pretty fast, mostly it is pretty slow, uploads to abe books takes 3 or 4 times longer than my old dialup connection

Unlikely to be the router at fault. .More likely your connection or the servers you are accessing.
have you done any speed tests to determine your speeds??

These are my speed tests since I started broadband .I am not plugged into the master phone socket though that avenue has been tried and produces no better results.
My son tried his solwise SAR 110 and things moved along very noticeably faster although speed tests were no better . I have two computers running from the router , neither one is better than the other.

Your speeds look to be getting progressively better but are still intermittant.
Some of the slower speeds to appear to be at peak periods (6pm to 10pm). This could indicate a capacity problem at your exchange.
Check that out here:
http://cgi.support.plus.com/exchanges/index.php

There is always the possibility of contention, and you could be unlucky and you have a number of users on the same DSLAM as you at the exchange who are on P2P or some other bandwidth hogger - can't be ruled out.

Last night I clicked explorer and yahoo was there in a flash , I typed in abe and a page of links opened almost before I pressed return ,clicked on abe books It was there, typed in the title of a book and It was there, I was flabbergasted my broadband has gone supersonic yipeeeeeeee.
Part of my life is spent operating a JCB digger and at the moment I am constructing a reed bed filtration system for somebody who has as much idea how they work as I do “not a lot”,
BUT HEY I have got supersonic broadband I will zip around the world and fill my head with knowledge, I type in reed beds and what did I get ,a blooming box saying no Internet connection ,all lights on router ok try again , no connection, check all leads try again no connection ,2 or 3 tries and we are off but sadly snails pace again

Tried router at sons house. Snail pace, tweaked it ,still snail pace, had a word with supplier about upgrading firmware ,they agreed.
Son came up and started process ,a bit scary reading instructions as they leave you in doubt that one wrong move and your router is DEAD and will remain dead, meaning dustbin dead.
Operation went well, patient was reset ,rebooted, computer reconnected,
Web browser now skips along with a spring in it’s heels and a smile on my face.
Will drop a in report in a couple of days

Am using one of these with no real problem - what was your original firmware version and what have you upgraded to? I am currently using version 32.19.3.

Thanks
