Bandwith Speeds/Downloading vids

I went to http://launch.yahoo.com and it detected my connection speed as 300k but when playing videos it was crap, picture and sound breaking up so I changed it to 128k and that was fine . When I hold the mouse over the modem icon in the taskbar it shows as 576 kbps .
Is this a problem i should be concerned about ??

First off, 576 is the total speed of your connection, before any overheads are accounted for. The speed to can actualy obtain is 512kbit/s.

This isn't actualy somthignt o be concerned of as such, and is likely due to the way the internet functions.

The way it works is as follows.

1: You should be able to obatin full speed to the +Net systems.

2: You should be abel to obtain full speeds to a system, just (1 hop, though this maybe 2 or 3 due to routers) outside of the +net network.

This is how ISPs provide there systems (at least they should). Where you are able to obtain and sustain full speed (within the limitations of the system type) upto and just outside of there network boundry.

Any router, computer or other system/connection, outside of the ISP network, is beyond there control.

A such, your data (IE, you video from yahoo), may get stuck between the adge of +net, and the yahoo systems.

It should only be a problem, if you can prove the issue is between you and the adge of the +net network.
