BT have re-done entire phone line: worth regrading again?

We've recently had major issues with ADSL disconnection problems and severe noise on the phone line. BT have replaced the line into our house from the telegraph pole and also done some work at the exchange to resolve the issue.

We've always had a noisy phone line, and when we were regraded free from 512kb to 1Mbit we were told 1Mbit was all we could get due to noise on the line. We were hoping to get the 2Mbit connection: is it worth requesting a second regrade on the line now we have basically a new phone line with no noise?

Cheers for any response,

Chris

Hi,

I'd suggest looking at your line stats first, to see if these have changed at all since BT replaced the part of your line between the house and telegraph pole. If these are still roughly the same, then its unlikley that you'll be able to get 2mb. Though if these are different, then you could try upgrading again.

Depending on the hardware that you're using, it should be able to provide statistics about your connection such as the downstream attenuation.

Exactly how to get your line stats depends on the hardware, but a quick look at the documentation should reveal how this is done.

ADSL Line Status
Operation Path Fast
Operation Mode G.DMT
Upstream 288 Kbits
Downstream 1152 Kbits

Only info any of the ethernet modem pages show, Quite an old bit of kit now I guess, no firmware updates in a good number of years! Download speed tests are up maybe 5% average from the speed before the fault on the line.
