Appalling speed problem

I'm on Broadband Plus and am getting 99kbps this morning. I've logged a fault but that was back on 17th January. I'm posting on here in the hopes that someone can suggest either a way for me to get somewhere near the speed for which I'm paying or an alternative supplier.

I'm on the Wadsley Bridge exchange here in Sheffield and, until recently, accepted that the maximum I could receive was 512kb. However, I experienced the heady delights of 944kbps for a whole 30 minutes. Having experienced it I want it all the time now.

How do I go about getting it?

Appalling speed problem

Join the club. I am on 2meg haha. During the hours of 8am to 4pm I get average speeds of 1700-1900kpbs. Every evening for the past week, I am lucky to get 300kpbs. It's currently 448, and was down to 221 just now. Pathetic. It's completely obvious that at peak times, PlusNet cannot cope with the amount of users online. I'm sick of it. Sad

Speed test now - 68kpbs. Not even double the dial up speed I used to be on. Evil

Best bit is they even know if they are giving you garbage speeds before you even run their speedtest as it drops the download amount. One week on two weeks off.I'm now setting up a new e-mail as thats all that keeps me here now.Once thats done mac-code and off to a reputable supplier.

Sorry Plusnet you were good but you are now the dregs.

btw look at these results
04-02-2007 20:58:39 100.3

18.3 OMG - I think you win the prize!

No laughing matter. Okay guys so who else do we migrate to? I keep looking at reports about others, I thought about Sky, cos they keep pesterng me and I have the other packages, and also Virgin, and both of these seem to be having the same problems, ie, diabolically slow speeds during peak hours. So would it be out of the frying pan and into the fire with someone else? How the hell do you choose and do the right thing? :?

Appalling speed problem

Thats my problem.I actually was very happy with Plusnet, till this up and down speed began.A fair user allowance, letting downloads go off-peak.No speed problems, always at least 1.5Mb,even at peak times.Even the rules and traffic-shaping coming in were pretty fair and I was one happy customer.I never even made 30Mb let alone 100Mb and never exceeded my peak-usage ever.
I've fulfilled my end of the deal and all I ask is a reasonable BROADBAND speed at all times.I understand contention but all I want is a reasonable speed at peak times and my top speed when quiet.

Hi,

The faults guys are looking into this and have raised it to Tiscali to investigate. We have seen a number of reports of slow speeds on LLU and Tiscali are working on resolving these problems. As soon as we have any more information we'll let you know.

Hi,

The best thing to do is to raise it via the fault checker on the portal so that we can look into it and see what's causing the problem. There are a number of reasons for slow speeds so it's difficult to say for any one person what the cause may be, but if you raise it we can look into it.

I see that you have a fault raised with BT, what results do you see on the BT speedtest? If the problem you are seeing is a BT problem then I'm not sure how that relates to the amount of customers online.

Not done anything here. Can't give you an explanation other than to make an educated guess as to what it might be. A sudden change in speed like that is unlikely to be because our network is contended, I'd expect a more gradual change as people log off, instead I'd point at an exchange fault as the most likely cause.

Is your exchange listed on here?

Hi,

Have you looked at View My Broadband Usage (VMBU) under connection settings on the left? This will show you your recent usage, does look normal for what you would expect to see?

If it's higher than you would expect then it's possible that you PC has a virus or someone has access to your wireless network without your knowledge (if you have one).
