Affect of House Wiring of frequency response.

I found that If I was directly plugged in to the line I got a train up speed of over 5000kbs, with the house wiring it is at best 3296K.

My wiring is complex with the master socket in the lounge.

All phones have a filter connected to the phone.

Master socket - Filtered Decor 310 Phone
Spur to study - Filtered DECT Phone
Spur to bedroom, extension to wardrobe, BT 6 pair to bedroom, Filtered Phone. ADSL plugged into ADSL socket on Filter. Computers in spare bedroom.

I am wondering if reflections at high frequencies cause excessive drop outs? I cannot prove this any suggestions.

If I direct connect I get much better train up speed. However the political cost of leaving modem next to master socket in lounge needs further work.

I will need to rewire and then measure. Please feed back to BT Openreach / BT Wholesale.

Notice I get a much poorer high frequency performance with all my house wiring.

not sure about your filter setup, have you got a filtered master socket? if so adding another to each extension is not required & is detrimental to your connection.

Have you remomed the ring wire to see how that effects it? You dont say how your extentions work ie are they pluggedinto the tel socket or wired into the master socket.

If they are wired into the master socket what quality is the cable? Having a decant cbable can make a lot of differance and if itgoes near any powercables it can have an effect.

I have an NTE5 master socket. I do not have a filtered master socket, with phones on one side of the filter master socket and the ADSL modem plugged into the master socket.

Each phone is plugged into a Solwise filter at the end of the wire. This means I have two unfiltered stubs, with a filter on the end. I guestimate that I probably have 25metres of house wiring. The signals bounce up and down the stubs and combine and at some frequencies the signals add, while at other they subtract.

I am alluding to the fact that mt ADSL is probably being subjected to ghosting like a bad analogue TV signal in a hilly area. My AD SH CHANNNEL measurements are suggesting this.

I was told that transmission line effects start at 1/8 wave length. The ADSL modem is like a shortwave radio listening to the whole lot, like Thunderbird 5.

Well 2Mhz has a wavelength of 150 metres.
4Mhz has a wavelength of 75 metres.
8Mhz has a wavelength of 35 metres.

The 2MHz signal will be affected if I have stubs of house wiring about 18 m long. My wiring does go around the houses.

The 4MHz signal will be affected if I have stubs of house wiring about 9 m long. My wiring does go around the houses, It could be longer from my master socket to my ADSL modem.

The 8MHz signal will be affected if I have stubs of house wiring about 4.5 m long. My wiring does go around the houses, It could be longer from my master socket to my ADSL modem.

The frequency spread of the ADSL signal is 256 bins * 4179Hz or 16Mhz.

I suppose the moral of this posting is get the house wiring right.

dont forget that an antena is a quarter or eighth wave so all the ones you qoute are resinent.Then there are harmonics. So if you remove all the house wiring and dont have any tv micorwave etc adsl should be perfect. Ups what about the people next door
