ADSL speed test

Hi,

I get the same problems, i notice in the early morning and late at night between say 11.30pm to 6am it's ok, fairly good.

But at times in afternoon or in the evening when most people are home from work and probably using the net connection the speeds are rubbish, and it take me alot of attempts to logon to the network.

Sometimes my ADSL dectector light starts flashing too, then i get cut offline.. it then goes into trianing mode and i have to wait a while or reboot my pc. Sad

Here is a speed test i did at adslguide.org.uk at 00:12 am hours... speed is fairly good downstream now.

Starting speed test...
Do not use your connection until the test has finished.
Downloaded 32768 bytes in 672ms
Fairly fast connection, trying 524288 bytes.
Downloaded 524288 bytes in 8907ms
Now starting download test
Downloaded 524288 bytes in 8786ms
Estimated downstream speed is 466Kbps.
Uploaded 133120 bytes in 40344ms
Estimated upstream speed is 25Kbps.
Results stored.

>>> Speed: 466Kbps (down), 25Kbps (up) <<<
Test complete.

I'll try and do this test at different times of the day today (Wednesday) as i will be home all day, and i shall pos them here to compare the results of morning, afternoon and night-time use.

Although we are getting alot of problems with ADSL, PlusNet is still the best ISP i have ever been with in every way. just a shame!!

RE: ADSL speed test

Where was these speed tests done?

We have used a number of speed tests which have been fine. We have however found that the adslguide speed test reports a lower rate at peak times, we think that the speed test may be being well used and thus a little overloaded.

We always recommend you try a few different speed test to ensure accuracy of the figures.

Kind Regards

Kevin

RE: ADSL speed test

here are my tests done with visualroute to the bbc:

Report for 212.58.224.121 [www21.thdo.bbc.co.uk]

Analysis: '212.58.224.121' [www21.thdo.bbc.co.uk] was found in 6 hops (TTL=249). But, problems starting at hop 1 in network "BT-MIDBAND" at 122ms are causing IP packets to be dropped.

RE: ADSL speed test

Thanks for the tets.

I'm back at the pc again to carry out more.

Even if ADSLguide's speed test is not exact.. there is still a big problem Keven.

I already have visualroute (i bought a key) a while ago, as it also catches mail spammers and traces just about anything.

I will do some reports from this tool aswell.

The other reports came from my pc connected to PlusNet from 11pm to 6am in the morning.. i was testing it all through the night.
The results are true.
