ADSL = Worse than 56K

Just noticed tonight that everything is downloading really slow, my ping times are worse than a 56k i.e. >300ms to every server.

DUMeter says Average download rate of 3kb/s!

RE: ADSL = Worse than 56K

Although Plusnet will deny it, the problems ARE starting again.

If they insist that they have bandwidth to spare, then they need to get their finger out and find the problem, but on a server where many players have 20-30ms pings, mine ranges from 450-500.

RE: ADSL = Worse than 56K

I have had these results and have had pings of over 400ms as well.

I ask you, how can you even think of using the net with these kind of speeds?

RE: ADSL = Worse than 56K

I thought I would try a SpeedTest at www.adslguide.org

Here are the laughable results:

Starting speed test...
Do not use your connection until the test has finished.
Downloaded 32768 bytes in 4450ms
Very slow connection, trying 65536 bytes.
Downloaded 65536 bytes in 5160ms
Now starting download test
Downloaded 65536 bytes in 15870ms
Estimated downstream speed is 32Kbps.
Uploaded 133120 bytes in 8780ms
Estimated upstream speed is 118Kbps.
Results stored.

>>> Speed: 32Kbps (down), 118Kbps (up) <<<
Test complete.

Your Connection
Direction Actual Speed True Speed
Downstream 32 Kbps (4.0 KB/sec) 36 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 118 Kbps (14.8 KB/sec) 135 Kbps (inc. overheads)
'Actual Speed' is the amount of useful data that your connection can transmit/receive per second. The 'True Speed' figure includes an approximation of data overheads (non-useful data).

Great Speed tonight ... Not.

And a lack of support answering the posts, I hope that means they are fixing the problem.

It would be even more helpful if the status part of the Customer Support section got updated when these problems come about rather the a day later when everyone has complained in the Discussion Forums.

RE: ADSL = Worse than 56K

In the last hour, things have improved "as if by magic", downloading again at almost 60kb/s and pings to plus.net are between 20ms to 90ms again.

If only we could discuss these problems in 'real-time' with Support in a chat room. Instead I have to make a premature post about a problem that corrects itself somehow Cry

I agree with you all there does seem to be a bit of a log-jam. So I am loathe to go on recommendidng PlusNet ADSL to my friends while PN are experiencing difficulty handling the customers they have - it makes me look as if I don't know what I am talking about!

It is embarrassing to contact them some days.

RE: ADSL = Worse than 56K

Have run a series of bandwidth tests this morning and speed is like a yoyo on "speed" one minute, "downers" the next. Not the best annalogy in the world I know but am sure you know what I mean. So problem is certainly not confined to the so called "busy" periods.
So, heres hoping that "fix" to all these problems experienced by so many loyal customers of yours plusnet is completed very soon.

Why oh why did I sign up for a yearHuhHuh?
Yes I have read the status connectivity notices by customer support. They may be doing their best(perhaps not), how are we to know?
