I have a USB ADSL Modem (Dlink) does anyone know if I can use Internet connection sharing oo my home network, or do I need to purchase a router? Thanks in advance

Yes. You can use Windows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). As long as you have the basic networking equipment for a home network. 2 Network cards and a cross-over cable is the simplest and cheapest method for achieving this. If you have more then two computers you'll want to buy a hub.
ICS is frowned on by a lot of people for not offering the flexibility and features of an hardware alternative.... such as a Router. But for basic Internet browsing it should be fine.
